Creating Stillness
Coming into stillness can be hard (currently going through my to do list) We are not used to it! We are used to being busy, keeping our layers on, distracted by the 'noises' in life, until nightfall and everything becomes still. Then we are happy to have a drink or two, swallow a pill or tune into a sleep app for rescue to help switch off the light and the mind. It is very common to experience sleep disorder in times of restlessness and change. Waking up at 4am? This is the life many of us recognise, we call normal.
Sleep is not only needed for survival, it’s the time of day that dictates your future. In rest you regenerate, renew your cellular function and refresh from within. It will not only show on your face, your skin, your hair and your nails, it will let you find calm and clarity throughout your day to focus on what really matters to you. It will make your body feel fresh, light with enough energy to take the next leap in life.
Deep inside we all know that a moment of pause now and then would undo the knots, relax the mind, release tension in the body and possibly, bring in some clarity to move forward more efficiently and aligned. Making it happen means carving out time or summing up the courage to face emotions that may arise, digging up old stories, things we'd rather not think about, body issues, stiffness, maybe even our own ego…
Coming into stillness if it is through meditation, nidra or Yin Yoga, or lounging on the couch staring out the window is that: it forces us to face these unresolved issues and self-talk, to break through, release them and make space for what we really love. In Yin Yoga I found an island of peace to just be, I had a lot of new sensations, sometimes tears and awareness that led to self reflection - stay the same or make changes. I stayed but like planting a seed... it grows. Sooner or later it will become more and more obvious.
Taking a decision is your free will, it's powerful!
I invite you to sit for 5’ straight or lie down without falling asleep in stillness and observe.
Write in your Journal what feelings, triggers came up for you.
Use these affirmations for finding stillness:
“I am taking the time to simply be”
“I am making time to observe life”
“Inhale, exhale, I take time to do both fully”
“I am centered and quiet”
“I feel myself unwinding”
