A Conversation with Karolin Van Loon
When I think of beauty, I think less about perfection and more about feeling.
Feeling at home in ourselves.
Feeling connected to what surrounds us.
Feeling inspired by the small rituals that bring colour, softness and meaning to everyday life.
Few people embody this philosophy as naturally as Karolin Van Loon.
Known for her colourful world of jewellery, beauty and sensory objects, Karolin has built a universe rooted in emotion, beauty, creativity and presence.
Ahead of our Summer Glow collaboration, we sat down to talk about rituals, crystals, family life, ageing, joy, and what it truly means to glow.
Beauty, to you: what does it truly mean beyond aesthetics? How does it show up in your daily life?
Beauty, for me, means beauty in every sense: nature, flowers, the love for your children and friends. I try to surround myself with beauty in its purest form.
Crystals and jewellery are at the heart of your work. What role do they play in grounding, intention, or energy for you?
Accessories are very important to me: a beautiful handbag, a brooch, a piece of jewellery, or a touch of colour on your nails. Crystals are also present in our interior and give me a lot of energy, simply by looking at them. By creating jewellery with agate geodes, I bring the worlds of interior design and jewellery closer together, which is truly my dream.
Is there one crystal that never leaves your side — and why?
For the past ten years I have worn the same two rings: a diamond in the shape of a heart and a large agate geode, one of the very first rings I made for my brand. Without these two rings I feel naked and lost, I truly can’t describe it any other way.
Your brand radiates joy and colour. How do you consciously cultivate joy — especially during intense or demanding periods?
During challenging times that can be difficult, I admit. We have a big family, and managing everything is not always easy. Setbacks are part of life. We try to live with certain rituals because they make everyone feel safe. Having breakfast and dinner together is always the goal, although it doesn’t always work out. I really cherish those moments and try to share that feeling with friends and family as well. We love inviting people over. A touch of playfulness is important in everything I do, in how I interact with people, in the photos we create, and in the content I share.
Jewellery often carries memory and emotion. What do you hope women feel when they wear your pieces?
Many clients choose their own stone with me. They are often drawn to a particular colour or shape, but most of all to the energy of the stone, which is always unique. You find it in the small hollow of the geode. Jewellery often carries meaning because it is given for a special occasion. A piece can intensify that emotion. Certain milestones in life are beautiful to capture with a jewel, that way you carry that feeling with you for much longer.
Travel seems to be a strong source of inspiration for you. What are your three most recent discoveries — a place, a flavour, a moment — that stayed with you?
I love the mountains: the silence you experience on the top of a mountain, and at the same time the feeling of how small we are as humans, with just a hint of fear. But I also love the energy and movement of cities: my own city Antwerp, and New York.
Music or sound — is there something you return to when you need inspiration or calm?
Most of the time I return to silence. By resting and meditating, I reconnect with my strength.
When you feel out of alignment, what helps you come back to yourself most quickly?
Sport. I go jogging in nature, without music, and often come back feeling reborn: with a solution to a problem or a new idea. I’ve experienced that many times.
Finally, what does “glow” mean to you at this stage of your life?
At fifty, glow means looking happy and having a healthy radiance. The little wrinkles come with it and I happily accept them)))
